Contact & Directions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an appointment?

You can usually visit without an appointment for photo printing, film developing and passport or ID photos. Passport photos are normally ready within 10 minutes. Please book studio photography in advance so we can prepare the right setup; contact us to arrange a session.

How much do your services cost?

Our price guide covers standard printing, film, passport, studio and transfer services. Restoration, damaged media, large collections and unusual formats may need an individual quotation; send us the details and we will explain the options before work begins.

Can you print photos from my phone, camera, memory card or USB drive?

Yes. We print from phones, digital cameras, memory cards, USB drives, email, CDs and DVDs, as well as negatives and existing photographs. See our digital photo printing service or bring your device or files to the Highgate shop.

What photo sizes and enlargements can you print?

We produce everyday photo prints, enlargements and larger display prints from digital files, negatives and photographs. Image shapes vary, so some sizes may need cropping or a border; our team can show you the best option before printing. View photo printing and enlargement information.

Which types of photographic film do you develop?

We process 35mm colour film, 35mm black-and-white film, APS and 120 medium-format film, with print and scan options. Start with our film developing guide; for an old or unusual film, ask us to identify it before ordering.

Can I have digital scans, and will I get my negatives back?

Yes. Developed film can be scanned for online delivery or supplied on a USB drive, and your original negatives or prints are returned. Resolution options depend on the film and how you plan to use the files. Read about 35mm film scanning or ask us about 120 film and slides.

How long will my order take?

Turnaround depends on the service, quantity, format and condition of the material. Passport photos are normally ready within 10 minutes, while film processing, restoration and video or cine transfer take longer. We will give you a realistic collection or delivery estimate when we see the order; contact us if you have a deadline.

Do you take UK passport photos for printed and online applications?

Yes. We produce compliant UK passport photos in store and can supply printed or digital copies, depending on how you are applying. Tell us which application you are making so we prepare the correct version. See our UK passport photo service and the official GOV.UK passport photo rules.

More questions about our services
Can you make passport and visa photos for other countries?

Yes. We prepare passport, visa, citizenship and immigration photos for many countries, each with its own size and composition rules. Bring the latest instructions from the embassy or issuing authority, or choose a country in our international passport and visa photo guide. Selected services are also available through online ordering.

Which video tape formats can you transfer?

We transfer VHS, S-VHS, VHS-C, Video8, Hi8, Digital8, MiniDV and Betamax, plus several professional formats including U-matic, Betacam and DVCPro. Visit our video transfer guide for format links, or send us a clear photo of an unfamiliar cassette.

What will I receive from a video transfer, and are my originals returned?

Depending on the source and your order, we can supply a DVD, files on USB, or editable digital files such as MP4. Your original tapes are returned with the completed order. Tell us where you want to watch or edit the footage and we will recommend the most useful video transfer output.

Can you transfer a broken, damaged or mouldy tape?

Sometimes. We can repair many broken video cassettes and recover the footage that remains playable, but the result depends on the tape's condition and cannot be guaranteed before inspection. Do not try to play a visibly damaged or mouldy tape; read about video tape repair and bring it in for assessment.

Which cine film formats do you convert?

We transfer Standard 8, Super 8, 9.5mm and 16mm cine film to MP4 or AVI digital files, or DVD. Optional AI cine enhancement can improve suitable footage with stabilisation, grain reduction and colour correction. See our cine film transfer service for formats and ordering information.

Can you restore a faded, torn or damaged photograph?

Yes. Digital restoration can reduce fading, scratches, creases, tears, stains and other visible damage while the original photograph is preserved. The work and price depend on the damage, so we assess each image first. View photo restoration examples and options.

What studio photo shoots do you offer, and how do I book?

Our Highgate studio offers family portraits, business portraits, actor headshots, model portfolios, pregnancy photography, pet portraits and other tailored sessions. Explore our studio photography services, then contact Kodak Express Highgate to discuss the session, availability and booking payment.
