Current South African passport and identity document photo requirements

• Printed format when required: 35 x 45 mm, clear professional colour photographs showing the full face and head/shoulders. The official template gives a head height of 29-34 mm.
• Capture route: Smart-card and some in-country offices capture images digitally, while overseas/passport routes can require printed photos and endorsement. Follow the London High Commission checklist for quantity.
• Quality: Strong separation from a plain background, sharp focus, even lighting, front-facing pose and no digital alteration.
